This EU funding will still be spent in Calderdale over the next three years

Although the United Kingdom has now left the European Union, some European funding will still be in play for Calderdale businesses over the next three years, with million of pounds in play.

Leader of Calderdale Council Coun Tim Swift (Lab, Town) outlined these in his report to councillors at the last full meeting of Calderdale Council.

European Social Fund (ESF) backing for Calderdale Employment Hub, which helps people aged between 15 and 25 to access learning or employment in partnership with 500 local businesses with a goal of helping 650 young people,is a matchfuned programme totalling £2.1 million and runs until December 2021.

Growth Hub, which is a three-tear European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) programme of business support covering all of the Leeds City Region Growth Hub, funds two staff to be based in Calderdale who will help deliver direct support to help businesses grow and has £225,000 funding to allow it to run to March 2023.

Calderdale is also part of the ESF Works Better programme to help people over the age of 25 who have multiple barriers access employment which will still run until May 2020, with match-funded £2.3 million having helped 258 local people into employment.

Another ESF-funded project is Inclusive Labour, which helps deliver pre-employment support to help people with a range of health issues, disabilities and other barriers to engage in learning and social prescribing activity designed to get them closer to work.

It is match-funded for £2.6 million over a three year contract which runs until December 2022.
