A planning application has been submitted to Calderdale Council to change its use from light engineering.

In its place will be a restaurant and retail and residential units.

Developer Graeme Henderson, of Coley, already has several interested parties.

“We are looking at a mixed use with retail, offices and restaurant space.

“There is also parking which is ideal and the fact that it is right on the water it is a lovely site.

“There is a number of parties already signed up for some of the space which will be created and it will generate more businesses for the other businesses in the town.

“I still believe that Brighouse has got a good future and that is why we are doing so much round and about the town.”

The vacant site is not a conservation area or green belt and has been determined large enough to sustain the proposed mixed use.

A single storey side extension is proposed to replace what was an existing extension.

The Canals and Rivers Trust has viewed the proposals favourably.

It is hoped that by refurbishing the interior and exterior of the boathouse it will create more jobs for traders and suppliers locally.
