Labour Councillors in Calderdale have welcomed the selection of Holly Walker-Lynch as Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Halifax.
Ms Walker-Lynch won a vote of members at a hustings held at the Three Ways Centre in Ovenden today (Saturday).
The selection came about after sitting MP Linda Riordan announced she would be standing down at the next election after 10 years as the town’s MP.
The Calderdale Labour leader Councillor Tim Swift said: “Holly Walker-Lynch is a great choice who has been selected from a really strong set of possible candidates. She has already been out campaigning with Labour members, and I know how strongly she believes in defending our NHS against the impact of Conservative policies.
“Holly is also committed to working closely with Calderdale Labour councillors to stand up for Calderdale, and to bring the quality jobs and investment we need to build a strong and fair local community.
“Halifax is one of the key seats that could decide whether Ed Miliband or David Cameron form the next Government.
“We’ll be working every minute forwards to make sure that we elect Holly on May 7th, and continue the tradition of sending strong, independent-minded Labour women to represent us in Westminster.”
