UPDATED: 2014 Tour de France route unveiled

The Grand Depart of the 2014 race takes place in Yorkshire, with Calderdale hosting the event on Sunday, July 6.

The route enters Calderdale on Keighley Road past Pecket Well before entering Hebden Bridge and onto Mytholmroyd on the A646.

It then heads up Cragg Road (B6138), the longest continuous incline in Engalnd, through Cragg Vale, past the Robin Hood Inn and onto Blackstone Edge.

The riders will then turn left onto Rochdale Road (A58), through Ripponden traffic lights before taking a right onto Elland Road (B6113), the route heads up Ripponden New Bank and onto Greetland Road.

The riders then head past the Sportsman’s Inn on Rochdale Road and down into West Vale before turning right onto Stainland Road (B6112) by West Vale Primary School.

The route then goes left onto Queen Street and right onto Green Lane.

It then heads left onto Hullenedge Lane and into Elland before turning right onto Hammerstones Road and out towards Ainley Top.

It was also revealed that the 2014 yellow jersey will feature the Yorkshire white rose.

“To have such a prestigious event on our doorstep is an amazing opportunity. On 6 July the eyes of the world will be on us, enjoying our stunning landscapes and witnessing our great cycling challenges.

“Like many people, I can’t wait for next summer!”
