Popular restaurant fined over beef fillet supply

Bellini’s restaurant in Phoenix Street and its manager Alsi Dhrami, appeared at Calderdale Magistrates .

They were charged with failing to give information between March 3, 2015, and June 4, 2015, to Calderdale Council’s health officers about where or who had supplied them with 58 packs of beef fillet.

Both the restaurant and Mr Dhrami pleaded guilty to the offence.

Councillor Barry Collins, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “On a visit to Bellini’s restaurant in Brighouse, the Council’s Environmental Health Officers asked for confirmation of where 58 fillets of beef had come from.

“Bellini’s Restaurant Ltd and the manager, Mr Alsi Dhrami were unable to provide adequate traceability information for the meat when questioned.

“The Council will take all the necessary steps to stop food businesses putting people at risk, and won’t hesitate to take legal action against those who fail to comply with the law.”

The Italiain restaurant was fined £3,000 and was ordered to pay costs of £2,478 .89 and a vicitm surcharge of £120.

Mr Dhrami, of Chickenley Lane, Dewsbury, was also fined £560 and ordered to pay costs of £972 and a victim surcharge of £56.

Bellini’s Restaurant opened in 2011 and replaced the former La Romantica restaurant.

On Trip Advisor it is ranked in the top ten restaurants in Brighouse and has been awarded a certificate of excellence by the review webiste.
