It’s expected that around 30,000 people will experience ‘Welcome’, a free festival to herald the reopening of the historic Piece Hall.

Spread across three weekends from August 18 to September 2, the programme of international events will welcome visitors back to the UK’s only surviving cloth hall, which will reopen on August 1 following a £19million transformation programme.

The central courtyard of Halifax’s best-known landmark will become a creative arena, showcasing an awe-inspiring programme of cultural activities.

Molly Rigg, head of events for The Piece Hall Trust, said: “We are immensely lucky to have a truly unique location in The Piece Hall and we are thrilled that the events marking the opening will showcase just how stunning a space it is, setting the bar high for the kinds of performances audiences across the North of England can expect to see here.”

The first event, on Friday August 18, will be Andy Sheppard’s epic Saxophone Massive.

The internationally celebrated UK saxophonist and composer will perform an original composition along with around 150 players recruited from across the town and region.
