pubs and bars across Calderdale are being reminded to make sure they have a TV licence before showing any Six Nations rugby matches.
TV Licensing will be visiting unlicensed pubs and bars throughout this year’s championship to check both the bar area and any living accommodation is covered by separate licences.
Fines could reach £1,000. In 2010, officers found more than 1,000 businesses using TVs illegally.
Neil Robertson from the professional body who overlook the licensed retail sector, the BII, said: “We know that pub landlords are always keen to stay within the law so if you’re showing the RBS 6 Nations, it’s a good opportunity to make sure you’re correctly covered by a TV licence.
“There is no need to risk a trip to court when you can tackle this in minutes.”
