FANS of Todmorden’s famous “lucky” dog are campaigning for it to be recognised as a tourist attraction.
A new petition is calling for signs and a path to be created leading to the Centre Vale Park statue.
The dog featured in Derren Brown’s show The Secret of Luck, part of his Channel 4 series, The Experiments, last year.
Photographer David Wilson, 40, from Whitehaven in Cumbria, visited the town over the New Year with his wife and friends after watching the episode.
He said the statue was difficult to find and the ground around it was boggy. “I actually found it through Google Earth, combined with pictures from the internet,” he said.
He is supporting the petition, launched by Lincolnshire resident Elizabeth Mapleston, 37.
She said: “It looks a bit of a mess and a dangerous place for people to stand if it’s muddy. It would be ideal if there was a path and tourism sign to say where it is.”
Calderdale Council said there were no plans for a path but directions to the dog would soon be put up.
“We are delighted to hear that people are travelling from as far as Lincolnshire and Cumbria to see the statue,” she said.
