In a video update this week, the Friends report that having reached their key £150,000 target they are allowed to keep the Crowdfunder going towards a new £350,000 target until December 6 and by midweek £160,000 was invested.

The £350,000 total is the amount they are taking forward into the project, some earmarked for necessary renovation work, which as well as the Crowdfunder cash includes grants and loans - each investment, at anywhere between £300 and £35,000, means less would have to be borrowed, say PHCP.

PHCP do face another bidder but have progressed negotiations to buy with the Hollins Mill Lane pub’s owners, NewRiver, and hope they will find out if they are in the box seat “sooner rather than later”.

A spokeswoman said in the video: “It’s not just about being a pub; it’s about being more than a pub” - Sowerby Bridge did not have an abundance of resources and at non-peak pub times it could be used for a wide range of purposes which would not necessarily be the case if privately owned.
