Quarry homes are a no-go say planners

hopes of turning a redundant quarry into a holiday camp have been dashed.

Kevin Simpson sought approval to put 22 log cabins, including an office and shop, into Wham Leigh Quarry, at Clay Pit Lane, Sowood.

They would have provided both residential and holiday accommodation.

But Calderdale Council planners have rejected the scheme, after previously deciding that a plan for 27 cabins would also be unacceptable.

According to Mr Simpson the Down’s Syndrome Association was interested in reserving plots to house adults with learning difficulties.

The original scheme did not accord with the provisions of the area development plan and would have affected a public right of way.

Plans in the 1990s to put a stable block and a house in the quarry were also rejected by the council.
