Work has started on the £3.9 million scheme to build a green extension to Calderdale College.

More than 100 local trades people have expressed an interest in working on the project for Wildgoose Construction and it is due to be completed by September 2013.Managing director Tim Walker said: “We are committed to using local suppliers, trades people and sub-contractors and are looking for a wide range of trades including decorators, plasterers, roofers, tilers and landscapers, along with suppliers.

“This project will not only be a fantastic facility for students and staff but it will also provide a boost to the local economy allowing local business people to get involved and secure work.”

The new environmental technologies centre on Francis Street, Halifax, will incorporate rainwater recycling, photovoltaic panels, solar water heating, a wind turbine, wind catcher ventilation and permeable pavings. There will be a new grass sports pitch on the Princess Mary Centre site.
