Rare chance to take a tour of police station

Residents are being given a rare chance to have a look inside the cells at Halifax Police Station - without committing a crime.

The Halifax Police Station Open Day will run from 10.30am to 3pm on Saturday, August 16, at the station on Richmond Close and members of the public will be given a rare access-all-areas tour.

The free event will feature emergency services demonstrations, face painting activities, childrens’ rides (charged), a vintage police car display and zorbing.

Youngsters and adults can also become crime scene investigators for a day and help crack the case in a mock crime scene.

One of the event organisers PC Ben Doughty said: “It promises to be a fun day out for people so why not come along and make a day of it.

“It’s a great chance not only to come and have some fun but to come and see what happens at a busy police station and meet some of the characters based there.

“Crime is falling across Calderdale and Halifax Police Station is the nerve-centre of that operation so why not come along and see what happens - there will be tours of the building and the cells throughout the day so people can have a good look around.

“And if that wasn’t enough, the West Yorkshire Police Band will be playing to keep everyone entertained and in high spirits. There will also be burgers and an Asian food stalls.”

Officers will also put on a public order display and the Salem Church will have a cake and refreshment stall.
