The grand re-opening on Yorkshire Day

More than 22,000 people flooded through the doors of the transformed Piece Hall for its official opening on Yorkshire Day, August 1 2017. Halifax paralympian Hannah Cockroft signalled the new era, ringing the trading bell.

HRH Prince Charles, a keen admirer of architecture, was welcomed to the Piece Hall alongside wife HRH the Duchess of Cornwall as part of his visit of Halifax on February 16.

Grammy-award winning singer-songwriter Father John Misty took to the Piece Hall stage in May 2018, leading a bill including Halifax’s own The Orielles (above), in front of a packed crowd.

The BBC’s Antiques Roadshow programme rolled into town and attracted a record figure of around 40,000 Piece Hall visitors on July 8.

Around 650 children from schools across Calderdale joined to perform original songs about the history of the Piece Hall at The Big Sing, a tribute to a similar Victorian tradition at the historic cloth hall.

A packed Piece Hall hosted the fourth and final stage of 2018 Tour de Yorkshire as the likes of cycling superstar Mark Cavendish set off from the landmark into the Calder Valley and beyond.
