Remembering the victims of asbestos

A commemorative plaque and snowdrop garden are being installed at Pecket Well Memorial Garden to remember people who have died from exposure to asbestos in the Calder Valley.

A special ceremony, organised by Wadsworth Parish Council and Wadsworth Environment Group, will take place on Saturday from 11am at the gardens on Keighley Road, above Hebden Bridge.

Hundreds of people across Calderdale have died from asbestosis after being exposed to the deadly dust at the former Acre Mill in Old Town, Hebden Bridge. The council and environment group have created a memorial away from

the factory because they felt it would be too painful for families to go there.
