A blanket, which was crocheted by a group of friends in Sowerby Bridge for Remembrance Day, will be used as a shop window display.

The group were hoping to donate their blanket, which is made up of 3,700 crocheted poppies, to the Bankfield Museum.

Gill Murphy, who came up with the idea of creating the blanket, said: “Unfortunately the Bankfield Museum declined the offer of our donation, so after the display was taken down some of the local people got together to think of ways to save it.

“The suggestion we have decided upon is to use it as a shop window display, it will go on a ‘roadshow’ adorning a different shop each year.”

Sowerby Bridge gift shop Trinkette will be the first to display it in 2017 as they thought of the idea.

Gill said: “I think this is a great idea as more people will get to see it, the feedback we got from people who have seen it has been fabulous.”
