A SINGER is celebrating after his latest single made it on to Radio 1.

Richard Bedford, 38, from Luddenden Foot, features on the single by Above & Beyond.

The song, called Sun and Moon has been put on to Radio 1’s playlist and was named the station’s “Weekend Anthem”.

It has also been played on music TV channel MTV.

Since the video was uploaded on to YouTube, it has been watched more than 229.000 times.

The video has made it into the Top 50 most discussed on the worldwide site and has been played on BBC Radio 1 and Capital FM.

“Momentum just keeps building and building,” said Richard, who is a professional singer.

He previously worked with the group in 2006 on their album Tri-state.

“They’d always asked me to be involved at a later date and then we just got back in touch,” he said.

Singer-songwriter Richard has been involved in the local music scene since 1989.

“I’ve been involved in music for a long time so people knew it might happen but this looks like it’ll be the biggest yet,” he said. A previous track has been played on Judge Jules’s show, but this looks to be his most successful to date with coverage on the prime-time Scott Mills tea-time show.

“It’s great,” said Richard.

But his new-found fame is suprising to some.

He said: “A lot of people are shocked to discover it in some ways.

“I coach my girlfriend’s netball team and they all asked ‘Am I right in thinking I heard you on Radio 1?’

“It’s a bit strange but people are being pretty supportive.”

The album Group Therapy will be released in May.
