River patrols to reduce flooding

ENVIRONMENT Agency staff are on their annual clean-up to reduce the risk of flooding along the River Calder and elsewhere.

They are walking the banks to inspect watercourses along 2,300 kilometres of rivers across Yorkshire.

Obstructions in the river can increase the risk of flooding so staff routinely patrol rivers in the winter months.

Hazards include fallen trees to abandoned vehicles and fly-tipping.
