POOCHES were put through their paces at a fun show in aid of the RSPCA.

The Halifax, Huddersfield and district branch of the charity held its annual dog day afternoon at Shibden Park, Halifax.

Dozens of pets were entered into eight different classes, ranging from the dog with the most appealing eyes to the pooch who could perform the best trick.

And owners were also put to the test, with a prize for the best child handler.

The more athletic animals also had a go at an agility course.

All proceeds from the show will help the charity take in and rehome unwanted and neglected pets.

Its next fund-raiser is a horse show at Hopton Horse Centre, Mount Pleasant Farm, Upper Hopton, Mirfield, on Saturday September 3.

A range of classes will be on offer including mountain and moorland, turnout, equitation, working horse and pony, jumping, and bonny pony.

Another dog show, the K9 Party in the Park will be held on Sunday September 11 at Manor Heath Park, Halifax.
