The Old Brodleians Rugby Club have chosen to support Overgate Hospice for their charity partnership over the next two years.
The Hipperholme-based club has long supported Calderdale’s only hospice, working closely with the Brighouse Friends of Overgate on events such as the Brodstock music festival, which raised £10,000 for the hospice this summer, and the annual Brighouse Friends Fashion Show.
Over the next two years the club has pledged to increase this support and is aiming to raise over £20,000 for the charity, in addition to raising awareness about the cause.
The club’s first team kit will sport the Overgate Hospice logo, while the club have already run raffles, World Cup sweep-stakes and held a Golf Day in support of the hospice.
Faye Henderson, senior fundraiser at Overgate, said: ‘We are thrilled to be working so closely with the team at the club and cannot thank them enough for choosing to support Overgate over the next two years.”
Old Brodleians committee member James Ogden said: “So many of our members have personal reasons to support the great work the Overgate nurses do.
“We know that when all our members, and their friends and families, come together we can make a difference to benefit this vital local cause.”
The Old Brodleians, who operate three senior teams, a veterans side, a full range of boys and girls junior teams and netball teams. raised £10,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance through their last charity partnership.
Overgate Hospice provides specialist palliative care for adults suffering from progressive, life-limiting illnesses. For every £1 donated, 85p is spent directly on patient care.
