THE Turnpike Inn at Rishworth is now operating under new ownership.

Manchester brewer J W Lees has bought the country inn, which reopened in November 2009 after a redevelopment programme.

Chris Connolly, a director at J W Lees, said: “We are delighted to add this pub to our estate. It’s a real gem. We are hoping to grow on its continued success.”

The company described the Turnpike as a high-quality destination food house and it now serves the brewery’s range of cask ales.

Calderdale planners recently approved a planning application for an additional car park at the pub, which will now be able to accommodate more than 60 cars on two levels.

Since the recent redevelopment, 70 staff have been taken on and the inn attracts around 1,800 customers weekly, which includes up to 500 diners on a Sunday.

The oldest part of the inn dates back more than 200 years.

J W Lees has 172 pubs across the north west and north Wales.
