Tributes have been paid to a school girl who died over the weekend.
Bethany Fitton, 13, a student at Calder High School, Mytholmroyd, and a former pupil of Old Town Primary School, Hebden Bridge, was taken to hospital on Wednesday but died on Saturday.
Calder High head teacher Anthony Guise said: “Bethany was well known in the community and across the school and her passing has left a hole in the fabric of our school community.
“She was a model student who left her mark across the school.”
Bethany’s form tutor, Miss Jenny Southwell, added: “Beth was a hard working student who always gave her best and was a pleasure to teach. She was a lovely member of our form. Always happy and cheerful, with a smile for everybody. If anyone was upset she was one of the first to be there to support them. Beth was generous, thoughtful and a popular member of her form with lots of friends who will miss her dearly.”
Mr Guise said that staff and students were being supported through this difficult time and the Ted Hughes theatre has been open for students, staff and the community to pay their respects.
Plans for a memorial service to celebrate Bethany’s life are also being arranged.
Mr Guise added: “Bethany will be sadly missed but will remain in our hearts and in the soul of the school. The thoughts and prayers of all of us at Calder High School are with Bethany’s family and friends.”
An inquest into Bethany’s death was opened and adjourned on June 29.
