Scores of firefighters called to motorway tanker blaze

Dozens of firefighters were called to deal with a tanker on fire on the M62 last night.

Eight teams from West Yorkshire including Halifax and Elland crews joined others from Greater Manchester to put out the vehicle on the eastbound sliproad for junction 22 of the M62 at Ripponden at 10.20pm.

They said the fire was in the lining of the tanker, and eventually the vehicle had to be taken by police escort to a tanker yard in Huddersfield where it could be dismantled.
