METAL thieves are damaging buildings and costing businesses in part of Calderdale.
Officers from the Lower Valley neighbourhood policing team say they have seen a rise in metal thefts, particularly in Hove Edge, Lightcliffe and Brighouse.
Inspector Mohammed Nawaz, who heads the team, said: “Copper and lead are mainly being stolen, causing extensive damage to buildings, not to mention the cost of replacement.
“Any van seen acting suspiciously in the Lower Valley area carrying any form of scrap metal will be stopped.
“My officers are taking this seriously and will arrest anyone involved.”
He appealed to residents to be vigilant and get in touch if they had any information about the thefts.
“I urge them to report this to police immediately,” he said.
