See spellbinding Father Christmas in Westgate’s fantastic Santa’s Grotto

This year the Westgate Arcade in Halifax is hosting a Santa’s Grotto - it is the largest Grotto to come to town this festive season and opened last Saturday to coincide with the Christmas Lights switch on in Halifax.

Event organisers Nick and Carly said the feedback received from the public so far has been brilliant with one family said that it was “The best grotto and Father Christmas they’ve ever seen” and another another family

said that they had travelled from Huddersfield to see it as “there’s nothing like this in Huddersfield’.”

At the Grotto you will find Santa and four costumed elves. Santa is a professional Father Christmas and Nick says families are amazed by his sheer size and enthusiasm - one parent actually started crying when Santa began to sing Christmas Carols with their daughter, said Nick.

The elves are all local teenagers dressed in full costume and are tasked with greeting each family outside of the Grotto before introducing them to Santa.

Santa talks with every child before handing them their own individually gift-wrapped present together with the all-important “Good List Certificate”.

The crowning glory of the display is the Grotto which has been decorated inside and out to resemble a traditional Scandinavian wood cabin, with twinkling Christmas trees and fresh fallen snow, said Nick.

Christmas carols play inside and there is even the smell of a real fire and mulled wine.

Nick says: “We have sourced the grotto from a local Halifax-based company called Seasonal Group, owned and managed by a father and son team with decades of experience, supplying stunning seasonal displays and decorations to some of the most successful retailers, theme parks and shopping centres in the UK and worldwide.

“Why not make your Children’s Christmas extra special this year by visiting Santa and his Elves at the Westgate Arcade Shopping Centre, Halifax HX1 1DJ, opposite the Borough Market?” he says.

Opening Times are: every Saturday and Sunday to December 20, 10am to 4pm, every Thursday until December 17 from noon to 6pm, and every day from December 18 to Christmas Eve inclusive, from 10am to 4pm.

Tickets are £4.95 per child and include meeting Santa, gift and certificate.
