Seven people taken to hospital after smash

SEVEN people including two police officers and twin nine month-old baby boys have been involved in a car accident.

A police Volvo Estate responding to an emergency call was involved in a collision with a BMW at 9.15pm last night.

The BMW then collided with a parked VW Polo on Birkby Hall Road, Birkby.

The five people in the BMW, a male driver in his 30s, a seven year-old boy and a nine month-old baby boy have already been released from Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

A woman in her 30s and a nine month-old baby remain in hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Two police officers were taken to hospital with minor injuries but later released.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
