Share your views on flood scheme at drop-in events

A public consultation on proposals for the town will be held at St. Michael’s Church Hall, Mytholmroyd, today from 1pm until 7pm, Friday, November 11, from 1pm until 7pm and Saturday, November 12, from 11am until 4pm.

Laura Mageean, project executive at the Environment Agency said: “This is an opportunity for residents to come along and hear about what’s planned for Mytholmroyd, give your views on the designs and raise any questions or concerns with our team. We hope you can make it and look forward to seeing you there.”

The Environment Agency launched an action plan for Mytholmroyd in May this year, and has plans to spend £15 million in the town to improve the protection to nearly 400 homes and businesses.

The plan set out a programme to reduce flood risk to the town, with construction due to start by the end of the year.

The outline plan includes proposals to:

· Widening the River Calder at its narrowest points throughout the village;

· Removing and replacing the bridges at Greenhill Industrial Estate and Caldene Avenue;

· Raising walls to contain more water within the channel of the River Calder and Cragg Brook (Elphin Brook);

· Managing surface water;

· Installing a canal overflow to manage flooding from the Rochdale Canal; and

· Improving the White Lee Clough (Foster Clough) culvert
