A young actress from Elland is hoping to secure a place in the Miss England semi-final. Shelby Love, aged 20, is one of eleven contestants competing in the heat for the 2017 competition. The public vote is now well underway and Shelby is hoping to drum up support in her hometown, to help her reach the next heat in June.
Shelby said: “I’m so excited to be doing the pageant and just overwhelmed that I managed to get through to this stage.
“I just can’t wait to do the fundraiser now as I’ve been working so hard and planning like mad to make sure it all goes great.
“I’m so privileged to be doing the pageant, as when I applied I never thought that I could do it, and now that I have, I’m just working so hard and trying to raise as much money as I can to prove that I’m worthy to win Miss England.
“It would mean so much to me and to prove to everyone that you can do things if you try your best and work hard for the things you want and dream in life. I just hope all my hard work pays off.”
Entrants are encouraged to raise awareness and funds for the Miss World charity ‘Beauty with a Purpose’. As part of her efforts, Shelby has organised a big fundraising event at The Fleece Inn, Elland, on March 25. It will begin at 2pm and go through to the evening.
You can vote for Shelby by texting MISS SEMI09 to 63333. Text votes costs 50p and it closes on March 31 at 12 noon.
