The sun came out to shine on the masses who enjoyed the fun and festivities of Shelf’s 53rd gala.
Rain didn’t stop play at the popular gala despite the torrential downpours the day before.
Organisers pressed ahead with plans for Saturday’s event and the sun rewarded their decision on the day.
Crowds gathered at Shelf Hall Park to enjoy the activites on offer and watch the procession through the village.
Rain stayed away for most of the day, until about 4pm.
The procession of local bands leaft the Interface car park on halifax Road for the procession just before 1pm to parade through the village and into the park.
Visitors enjoyed performances by Qaws-e-khuzah belly dancers, Ryburn 3 Step and Dancestars.
Proud mum Nichola Walker watched has her daughter Emily, ten, - this year’s gala queen - took a lead role in the procession with friend Gracie Calam, ten, as her attendant at her side.
Nichola said: “They were waving and smiling in the procession.
“She was worried, with the rain on Friday, that she would have to be covered up in the car, which was was soft top, but the sun came out and the roof could come down. She was really pleased about that.
“She absolutely loved it.”
