Sheltered accommodation plan for town

The proposals have been submitted by McCarthy and Stone to develop land at the junction of Knightsbridge Court and Parsonage Lane.

The scheme comprises of 30 retirement living apartments for sale to older people (16 one bedroom and 14 two bedroom apartments.

In the submitted plans to Calderdale Council, the developers state: “This proposal represents an ideal opportunity for the redevelopment of this brownfield site within the built-up area of Brighouse, in accordance with the Government’s housing and sustainable development policies.

“It would provide for much needed specialised accommodation for older people within a central location, freeing up existing under-occupied stock.

“This specialised form of accommodation also provides older people with a better housing choice, and provides residents with safety, security and companionship whilst removing the heavy burden of property maintenance.

“Therefore, it reduces the anxieties and worries experienced by many older people living in accommodation that does not best suit their needs.

The proposal will feature a House Manager’s office alongside communal facilities such as a residents’ lounge, internal refuse storage and mobility scooter store/charging room.

It will include a CCTV entry system and alarm facility.

The development will sit in the heart of many other large detached buildings that include St Martin’s Parish Church, Brighouse Library the Smith Art Gallery, the Sixth Form College and Rydings Park itself.
