Plans to convert and extend a Northowram pub have been delayed after been heard by Calderdale Council’s planning committee.
The plans outlined that the Queen Victoria Inn on Bradford Road would be converted into a convenience store and an extension would be added to the rear of the building.
Objectors said the loss of the pub would be a knock to the community as a number of groups meet there on a regular basis.
A spokesperson for the objectors said: “The application would not just spoil the building, but would destroy it.”
Concerns were also raised about increased traffic and articulated lorries making deliveries to the store on the busy route.
Councillors voted to defer the application until they received further information about the operation of deliveries to the store.
