Sign up for It's a Knockout fundraiser in memory of Naomi
A fundraiser in aid of the Naomi Cheri Gough Foundation is taking place during the summer in Hipperholme and organisers are encouraging teams to start signing up.
The “It’s A Knockout” event will see teams battle it out to be the best in a number of sporty and inflatable activities at The Old Brodleians RUFC on Saturday, July 8.
The event is in memory of Naomi, from Brighouse, who died following a car crash on Burdock Way, Halifax in January 2007.
The 19-year-old had been on a day trip to Blackpool with a friend on the day she died in the accident.
She was on her way back from the resort, one of her favourite places to visit, when the crash happened.
Founder trustee, events organiser and Naomi’s mum, Bev Gough, said: “Without the help of family, friends, students and the local community, we could not have afforded the expense of Naomi’s funeral.
“No parent is prepared for the unthinkable and the last thing on their mind is the vast expense of their child’s funeral, and as it is the last thing they will ever do for their child they want to make it special.
“Since then we have raised funds to financially assist families with the sudden and unexpected costs of a child or young person’s funeral whose lives have been needlessly taken on the roads of West Yorkshire.”
Organisers are looking for junior teams, made up of 11 to 16 year olds, and adults.
Teams will be made up of 10 people with registration fees £10 for junior and £15 for adults.
Funds will be raised for the Naomi Cheri Gough Foundation, which assists bereaved families who lose a child up to the age of 25 on the roads in West Yorkshire. It helps with funeral costs and emotional support for families.
