Congestion chaos caused by changes to parking in the Skircoat Ward of Calderdale will be answered with a double yellow line blitz, Calderdale Council has announced.

The council’s head of planning and highways Geoff Willerton confirmed yellow lines will soon be painted around the junctions of Skircoat Green Road, Lea Avenue, Rawson Avenue and Greenroyd Avenue.

Changes to parking across 65 streets came into force on November 18 in response to concerns into over-flow parking from Calderdale Royal Hospital.

Residents’ and local councillors’ largely feel the problem has been pushed up onto Skircoat Moor Road, Manor Heath Road and surrounding streets - causing congestion.

Coun John Hardy (Con, Skircoat) said: “I have increasing concerns there could be serious problems with the number of vehicles parked down Skircoat Moor Road.”

Cabinet member for economy and environment Barry Collins (Lab, Illingworth and Mixenden) said: “I am aware of problems in a few areas and we will work with residents to address these issues.”
