The Band of the Yorkshire Regiment played in St George’s Square for two hours yesterday afternoon to bring cheer to the flood-torn town.

Soldiers from the regiment were among troops deployed to the area to help householders and businesses with warnings, sandbagging and clear up duties after Storm Eva struck on Boxing Day.

The band’s outdoor concert raised funds for the Calder Valley flood relief appeal which is supporting the communities affected by some of the worst floods the area has ever seen.

Captain Gary Clegg, the band’s director of music said: “We wanted to put a smile on people’s faces during what has been a difficult time for the area.”
