Youngsters from across Calderdale did their bit for Sport Relief by running, walking and swimming to raise money for the charity.

New Road Primary School in Sowerby Bridge raised £102 from the children coming to school dressed in their sports wear. Every child and their teachers then ran 1km.

Longroyde Junior School had a fun run/walk around the local area and a sports-themed dress down day for students.

Rishworth Sport Club took part in the Sport Relief Swimathon. There were swimmers of all ages, with the youngest Elicia Pollard, who is aged 10, swimming 219 lengths of the pool, the equivalent of three miles, in just two hours and eight minutes.

Her swimming teacher, Judy Jackson said, “I was so proud to be there to witness her determination and sheer guts at completing this strenuous swim at her age.”

Elicia swam with her mum Jane Pollard, and between them they raised over £520.

A team of staff from Ravenscliffe School played football against a team from the St Augustine’s Centre.
