A house was badly damaged in a blaze last night at Battinson Street, Southowram.

The property was empty when the alarm was raised by neighbours at 8.20 pm.

A downstairs living room was badly damaged and there was smoke damage throughout the house which affected next-door.

Halifax watch commander Simon Moore said entry was gained by breaking through a door.

“The cause is under investigation with the police and fire investigation team involved,” he said.
