St George honoured in scouts parade

Headed by St George on horseback and a dragon, along with the Clifton and Lightcliffe Brass Band the parade set off from Central Methodist Church and went around Brighouse town centre through streets packed with onlookers. The event coincided with the Brighouse Business Initatives spring market and 1960s weekend.

David Burge, District Commissioner Brighouse Scouts said: “It was indeed heart-warming for me to see so many boy and girl Scouts, girl Guides and Leaders at the celebration of the St George’s Day service on Sunday at the Central Methodist Church in Brighouse hosted by the Rev Mark Cheetham.

“We had the honour of Mayor of Calderdale Lisa Lambert and various other dignitaries attendance at the service followed by an extremely enjoyable parade where we had hundreds of young people and their leaders presenting their sections and flags, a brass band, St George on his horse and a dragon that was ceremoniously slayed at the culmination of the parade in front of thousands of members of the public.”

There were representatives from Lightcliffe, St Annes, Bailiff Bridge, RSJ, Central, and Hove Edge clubs in the parade.
