Stand-by crews called to flat fire

A man was taken to hospital after a fire at Houghton Towers, Tower Hill, Sowerby Bridge, last night. (Fri)

Stand-by crews were called out at 9.45 pm due to the firefighters’ strike from 6.30 pm to 11 pm.

Crews positioned at Halifax, Illingworth, Brighouse and Birkenshaw attended.

The man was taken to the Calderdale Royal Hospital for a check-up after inhaling smoke.

A chip pan had caught fire and the blaze was out-on-arrival.

Stand-by crews were also called to bonfires at Mossy Bank Close, Queensbury; Vegal Crescent, Ovenden; and a false alarm at King Cross, Halifax.
