A step closer to our Spring Hall dream

The Ravenscliffe@SpringHall project was launched in 2013, with the aim of alleviating overcrowding at the main Ravenscliffe High School and Sports College site at Skircoat Green.

But it’s also hoped the build, which will open its doors in 2017, will be a hub for Halifax and the rest of the borough, offering community groups and organisations rooms for hire.

The school, Calderdale’s only secondary special school, moved a step closer to that goal earlier this week when an official planning application was submitted to Calderdale Council.

It’s a milestone moment and a positive step forward for those who have been involved in the £3.1m project from day one.

Headteacher Martin Moorman said: “So many people have bought in to this, this is not a one person job, it’s many people buying into the vision.

“It’s about giving something to local people, groups and organisations so they can use it.

“It’s going to open doors for everyone. It is really difficultto acccommodate the the number of kids we have.

“At the same time we are trying to make the school better, but the only we can do it is through the Spring Hall build.”

But the school still needs your help as its estimated that around £400,000 - £50,000 for building and around £350,000 for equipping, is still needed to complete the challenge.

Companies including Lloyds Banking Group, Covea Insurance,the Rotary Clubs of Calderdale, Leo Grop and Sainsbury’s Halifax are all confirmed as room sponsors, but more are still needed to equip the cafe, sensory and music and drama rooms. If you could help, contact Ravenscliffe on 01422 358621.
