WINTER fuel payments can still be claimed by older people in Calderdale.
Most households with someone born on or before July 5, 1950, will receive £250 towards their winter fuel bills.
Households with someone aged 80 and over will get £400.
Last year more 30,560 households in the area were awarded the grant to help with their heating costs. The deadline for claims to be received this year is March 30.
Steve Webb, minister for pensions, said: “We kept our promise to protect winter fuel payments and they will help over nine million households this winter with heating costs.
“This is on top of additional help through cold weather payments if temperatures plummet.
“These payments should give people the confidence to turn up their heating during the cold weather.”
