An international bicentenary celebration was held at one of Calderdale’s oldest monuments

Calderdale Civic Trust organised the event at Stoodley Pike to mark 200 years since the Treaty of Paris in May 1814, which inspired the original monument.

It was later destroyed by lightning, but its replacement is now listed amongst the oldest towers dedicated to peace in the world.

200 homing pigeons were released from Stoodley Pike Monument parapet as music came from Todmorden Community Brass Band and puppeteering to the Handmade Samba Band.
