Summer show attracts prime stock

The third annual summer show and sale at Pateley Bridge Auction mart had good entry of prime sheep and prime and store cattle with over 300 head of stock forward.

Judging was undertaken by Michael Atkinson of Kirby Malzeard on behalf of Cleveland Meats for the prime cattle, John Thompson of Gargrave kindly judged the Cull Cows and sheep judge was Brian Dibb of Menston on behalf of McIntyre Meats of Hawes.

The supreme champion Prime cattle, a Limousin steer weighing 590 kilo was presented by Jeremy Waind of Malton sold to Kendalls Farm Butchers of Pateley Bridge at 260 pence per kilo, reserve champion a British Blue heifer weighing 550 kilo shown by the Peel family of Glasshouses was bought by H Weatherhead & sons of Pateley Bridge at 280ppk.

Jeremy Waind had his heifer put in third place and also sold to Kendalls Farm Butchers for 274ppk. The demand exceeded supply for store cattle with good quality steers up to £1260 and heifers up to £1180.

With a good entry of prime lambs the judge eventually placed the five Texel lambs from Brown Brothers of Heyshaw as supreme champion, weighing 45kilo they sold to Dunbia of Bamber Bridge for £85, reserve champions came from K Fawcett and son(Beltex) of Barden Tower, sold for £72 also to Dubia.

Other principle winners were third Texel S Stoney £68.50, Suffolks first D Bell £68.50, DM Nelson £64 third JL&MR Umpleby £68.50. Masham and Mule classes were dominated by W&R Verity of Bouthwaite taking all the prizes with mashams to £68 and mules to £64. And 50 store lambs were presented to be met by a flying trade with a top price of £58 for T B Martin.
