The opening of a new RSPCA charity shop was sprinkled with a dust of stardom thanks to a very special guest appearance.
RSPCA rescue dog Susie was the guest of honour at the opening of the new store in Southgate, Elland.
The pooch was featured on the Channel 5 TV programme The Dog Rescuers after being kept in a house of squalor.
Following her ordeal, Susie spent many months at the RSPCA Animal Centre, Halifax, undergoing rehabilitation and training before finding a new, loving home.
The charity shop, opened by Mayor of Calderdale, Pat Allen, will help other animals like Susie on the road to recovery.
Vanessa Gledhill, manager of the store, said: “I am really excited about opening our Elland shop. Everyone has been really positive and the community has shown fantastic support with donations, whilst we have been setting up the shop.
“People have been really interested, telling us stories of how they adopted their dog or cat from the RSPCA, so we are really happy to be part of the local community.”
The new shop has been fitted to a high standard and will sell clothing, accessories, CDs, DVDs, household items and much more.
Kate Hardcastle, patron of the RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield and District Branch, said: “The sterling work by the team, many of whom are volunteers, provides essential care and support for animals in our area.”
Volunteers are wanted to assist in the new shop - contact Vanessa on 01422 378236 or call in at the shop between 9am and 4.30pm from Monday to Saturday for more information.
