Teachers get on their bikes to mark Le Tour

Pupils lined the playground at St Chad’s Primary School, Hove Edge, to welcome the participants in a cycle tour of schools in Calderdale.Several schools in Brighouse took part in the Tour de ECLC (East Calderdale Learning Community) which saw members of school staff including teachers and head teachers take a 25-mile bike ride around the district.The tour was organised by staff at St Chad’s Primary School as a way for schools in the area to mark the Tour de France coming to Calderdale next month. On its route, the cyclists travelled to William Henry Smith School, Field Lane Primary, Highbury, Castlefields Infants, all in Rastrick, and finishing the day at Longroyde Junior School, Rastrick.The following day they visited Carr Green Primary, Woodhouse Primary, St Andrew’s Juniors, St Andrew’s Infants, St John’s in Clifton, Cliffe Hill Community Primary, Hipperholme and Lightcliffe High, St Joseph’s at Brighouse, and finished at St Chad’s Primary School. Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People’s Services, Megan Swift, said: “The Tour de ECLC was a challenging couple of days for those involved, but a fantastic way for all the schools within the East Calderdale Learning Community to get involved and feel a part of the celebrations throughout Yorkshire for the Yorkshire Festival and the Tour de France. “The weather was fantastic, and all the schools and teachers involved really got into the spirit of the event. I’m sure everyone had a great couple of days.”
