Teachers join in the fight against Ebola

Stephen Higgins, 28, of Southowram is a humanities teacher at Royds Hall Community School, Huddersfield, and teamed up with other teachers to record the charity single.

Following on from the huge success of Band Aid 30 in raising money and awareness of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, Royds Hall collaborated with other school to record their own version of the song, while challenging traditional perceptions of Africa.

Stephen said: “We’ve had a really good response. We’ve raised just over £250 and the video has had nearly 2,000 views.

“The students were all singing it last week and it was echoing around the corridors.

“We’ve set a target of £1,000 by Christmas Eve and we’re just asking people to give whatever they can.”

While staff at were busy recording and rehearsing, students dug deeper into the heritage, culture, beliefs and attitude of the people of the 47 countries that make up Africa.

The song has not been released as a single, but is available to listen to through www.teacheraid.roydshall.org.
