Television spot for Halifax vet

A new prime time BBC wildlife programme featured a Halifax-based specialist bird vet.

Johanna Storm, who runs an excotic bird and reptile clinic in Hipperholme, was featured on Operation Wild whilst working for Wildlife Vets International.

On Wednesday’s programme, Johanna was shown saving birds injured during India’s International Kite Festival in Ahmedabad earlier this year.

Johanna, who also worked in Ahmedabad in 2013, treat animals injured by thin cotton string covered in “manja”, gelatinous, brightly coloured goo containing finely ground glass powder, designed to cut opponents kite strings.

With much-needed attention following groundbreaking surgery, the birds mend better and are released back to the wild healthier and stronger than they had been previously.
