Gillian Clough, of Tenacres Cheese, placed top in the Specialist Cheese Makers Class where 250 well trained judges tasted to see which cheese was worthy enough of the award.

There were 2727 cheeses from 30 countries that competed in the awards which are run annually by The Guild of Fine Food.

Gillian said: “I love goats and I wanted to keep animals for something other than their needs.”

“I bought my first two goats in 2010 and all my goats since are descendants of the first two.”

In 2014, after working on her recipe, she entered the Great Yorkshire Show and won a silver award.

She also won a Dougal Campbell award for her cheese making project.

Gillian said: “The cheese is a fresh, soft cheese that has gradually changed as I have tried to perfect the recipe.”

That year Gillian entered a number of competitions, such as the Great Yorkshire Show again where this time she won two golds, but most importantly she entered the World Cheese Awards.

Gillian said: “When they announced that I had won a gold award I nearly fell off my chair.

“The cheeses are judged on their quality and if the judges don’t think any of them are worthy then they won’t award any.”

Gillian isn’t planning to change her award winning recipe but is currently developing a new cheese which she hopes will be just as successful.
