Dipak Brahmbhatt (right), owner of Dipak’s Store, Smith House Avenue, has had a collection tin for the RAFA Wings Appeal in his shop since 2005.

The Wings Appeal aims to provide support for serving officers and ex-servicemen on their return to civilian life.

People putting their coppers in the tin may not seem like much, but if they do it every time they go in, it mounts up. So Dipak has helped us raise a considerable amount of money over the years,” said Ronnie Mann, who has been a fundraiser for RAFA since the 1960s.

The Brighouse and Rastrick branch of the RAFA has raised thousands of pounds for the Wings Appeal, including Dipak’s own contribution.

Mr Mann said: “We promote the aims of RAFA on Wings Day which is always in late September , but it’s a year-round effort to raise as much money as possible.”
