A NEW luncheon club has served its first meals.
Volunteers - dubbed the “Dinner Ladies” - will be serving meals every Monday at the Cartwheel Club, Huddersfield Road, Elland.
The not-for-profit venture has the double aim of providing good value meals and attracting more people into community club.
Three-course home-cooked meals costs £3.50 and are served every Monday from 12.15 pm to 2 pm.
“We served 22 lunches at our first session and it was brilliant,” said volunteer and Calderdale Coun Pat Allen (Lib-Dem, Elland).
“We had a good selection of people attending, and hopefully, we can build on that figure and attract more volunteers to join the `dinner ladies’.”
The Cartwheel Club has been run by trustees on behalf of the community since 1962 when it ceased to be home to the Temperance Methodist Chapel.
Funding was secured last year to replace the kitchen and bring it up to modern health and safety standards.
