Calderdale music fans will have the opportunity to have their favourite tunes played out at the Piece Hall next month after a 'Sunday Mixtape' event was announced.

From noon on bank holiday Sunday 27 May, DJs and bands will play out pop tunes at an all-day party that organisers hope to be "a throwback to the days of taping the hits off the radio."

Musos will be asked to share their top three mixtape songs to The Piece Hall's social media channels to be in with a chance of having their chosen tunes played out on the day.

An overall ‘winner’ will then be announced and will get their top songs played by DJ and ex-Coronation Street star Dean Fagan, before being invited to join them on stage to receive their own mixtape.

A series of professional artists who will play tribute to Freddie Mercury, Stevie Wonder, Sister Sledge amongst others will then take to the stage to keep the crowd dancing until closing time.

A spokesperson said: "There will be an abundance of family friendly activities to take part in, including ‘spin the record’, where audience members will spin an arrow on a board to select the genre of the next track. Food and drink will be available from The Piece Hall’s cafés throughout the day, alongside pop-up bars and foodie favourites in the courtyard."

Nicky Chance-Thompson, chief executive of The Piece Hall Trust commented:

“The Sunday Mixtape is all about celebrating Sunday nights and taping the Top 40, creating our own mixtapes made up of guilty pleasures and dancefloor filler songs. This will be day where everyone will hear a song or two that will make you say ‘I used to love this song!’

"My own top three picks for The Sunday Mixtape will be Toto’s ‘Africa’, Haircut 100’s ‘Fantastic Day’ and Madonna’s ‘Lucky Star’. This event is perfect for the whole family, and we can’t wait to see everyone up on their feet dancing to what could be their very own mixtape suggestions.”

The event is free, but music fans that wish to guarantee a fast track entry pass, which includes a free ice cream voucher from Blondin’s Ice Cream Parlour, can be pre-book a pass through www.ticketline.co.uk
