There was sun, smiles and large crowds at Mytholmroyd Gala

The family-friendly event started off with a “One World” parade, which featured tigers, leopards, fairies and a tank.

The action then went in to Burnley Road playing fields and saw Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber Commonwealth anthem “Sing” performed by a choir featuring pupils from Burnley Road and Scout Road Academies.

The gala was opened by Bony from X-Factor, who later performed on stage, along with , Adam Trevesani, West Yorkshire Fire Service Pipe Band, Hank Mouldoon from the Mouldoon Brothers and Rick Wild from the Overlanders.

Organisers estimated that around 2,000 attended the event throughout the day and enjoyed market stalls, live music, fairground rides and food and drink tents.

Gala committee chairman Barry Greenwood said: “It’s been fantastic. Mytholmroyd turned out and supported the gala tremendously. They enjoyed the entertainment and different attractions that we’d put on and it’s my aim that next year it will all change again and we’ll have lots of different attractions and people coming to support us.”

Mr Greenwood estimated that the money raised for local charities and community groups will be close to the previous record.

The entertainment was rounded off with a “Fantastico” Gala Ball at Mytholmroyd Community Centre featuring music from the band Trilby.
